Two-harness system to adapt your Detroit Series 60 12.7L DDEC IV into a Cascadia

This is an integration / adaptation system made up of two harnesses, designed specifically to install a Detroit Diesel Series 60 12.7L engine with a DDEC IV ECM into a Freightliner Cascadia 2009-2017 cab. Cascadias from those years left the factory with DD13 and DD15 engines, not the Series 60. If you want to do a swap, repower or conversion to the Series 60 12.7L, this system solves the entire electrical side of the job.

Every harness is built in our technical laboratory in Houston, Texas, under controlled cutting, crimping and pin-to-pin continuity verification processes. Plug & Play installation through the factory firewall opening — no cuts to the Cascadia harness; the cab stays intact and reversible.

❗ Read before you buy

The Freightliner Cascadia 2009-2017 cab did NOT come from the factory with a Detroit Series 60. It came with a DD13 or DD15. This two-harness system is designed precisely to solve that difference when converting to the Series 60 12.7L with a DDEC IV ECM. If your truck already has a Series 60 installed from a previous swap, this product can serve as a replacement; if you are doing the swap for the first time, this is the key electrical component of the conversion.

⚠️ Two installation modes — choose the one you need

The DDEC IV ECM is from an earlier generation and uses the J1587 communication protocol. Unlike modern engines, the cruise control and engine brake controls do not communicate digitally with the factory steering wheel buttons. That gives you two options when installing this system:

🔧 Mode 1 — Independent switches (standard configuration, included in the price)
The harness comes ready to connect cruise control and engine brake to independent switches mounted on the dash or near the driver. They work perfectly, just not from the Cascadia's factory steering wheel buttons. It is the most economical, direct option and the most common among experienced mechanics.

🎛️ Mode 2 — Keep the factory steering wheel controls (advanced installation)
If you want the cruise and engine brake buttons on the Cascadia's factory steering wheel to keep working exactly as they did from the factory, an additional communication module is required to translate the steering wheel signals into the format the DDEC IV understands. You can buy it directly by choosing the «with module» configuration in the selector above.

📌 CTS policy on the additional communication module: We do not sell the communication module by itself. If you need Mode 2, choose the «12.7L DDEC IV — with module (factory steering wheel)» configuration above: the module is integrated into the harness directly by our technical team before shipping, because the connection must be done correctly to avoid damaging the ECM, the harness or the module. 1. Engine harness (engine ↔ cab)
Installs on the engine side of the firewall and connects directly to the DDEC IV ECM and the engine's main components. Includes:

🔥 Why this harness lasts

An engine harness lives in the worst environment of the truck: constant heat, oil splashes, diesel vapors and 24/7 vibration. Cheap harnesses fail for the same three reasons: the wire insulation dries out, cracks from heat, or peels where it contacts fluids.

Our harnesses use automotive wire certified to the SAE J1128 standard. The insulation is specifically designed to:

❓ Frequently asked questions

Does this harness work for a Cascadia that came with a Series 60 from the factory?
Cascadias 2009-2017 did not come from the factory with a Series 60. If your truck already has one, it was a previous swap. This system works as a component of the original swap or as a replacement if the previous swap's harness failed.

Do I have to cut or modify my Cascadia?
No. The system uses the factory firewall opening and does not cut the cab harness. The installation is clean and reversible.

Do cruise control and engine brake work from the factory steering wheel?
Depends on the mode you choose. In Mode 1 (standard, included) they connect to independent switches mounted near the driver. In Mode 2 (with the CTS-integrated module) the Cascadia's factory steering wheel buttons keep working 100%. If you are not sure which mode suits you, message us on WhatsApp before buying.

Why won't CTS sell me the communication module by itself so I can install it?
Because the harness wiring must connect to the module in a specific way for it to work correctly without damaging the ECM, the harness or the module. A wrong connection can burn components worth thousands of dollars. That is why our technical team does the integration before shipping, and you receive a system already tested and ready.

Will the dash gauges read correctly with the Series 60?
Yes. The in-cab harness includes the communication needed for every gauge, warning light and DDEC IV reading to work correctly with the Cascadia's factory dash.

Does it work with the Series 60 14.0L (DDEC V / DDEC 5)?
Yes. Choose the 14.0L DDEC V configuration in the selector. For the Cascadia 2009-2017 it is even simpler: the DDEC V speaks native J1939, needs no additional module, and the steering wheel controls work directly. (For the New Cascadia 2018-2021 we have a separate product.)

Is this an OEM harness?
There is no OEM harness for this swap because the "Cascadia with Series 60" combination is not a factory configuration. This is an adaptation system designed specifically to solve it, built with certified automotive wire highly resistant to heat, oil and diesel, the same technical grade heavy-truck manufacturers use for work engines.

Do you also build original engine harnesses (not for swaps)?
Yes. Our CTS Precision Series™ line is OEM-spec direct-replacement harnesses for engines in their factory configuration. They are currently in development. This product belongs to our CTS Integration Series™ line, built specifically for swaps.

Do you have an even tougher version for extreme use?
Yes. Our Pro line uses aerospace-grade insulation wire, designed for trucks operating in extreme heat or with heavy exposure to aggressive chemicals. The Pro line is currently in development. This Essential line is ideal for 95% of standard swaps.

What if it arrives with a defect?
Contact us within the first 48 hours with photos of the harness and the serial number. We process replacements at no cost under the 12-month warranty.
